Our 8,000-Day Anniversary – Cañadas Blancas.
I’m not much for traditional celebration dates, birthdays, anniversaries…
Don’t know why, just wired this way. But I love inventing and celebrating our own special days.
Like this Thursday, October 22, 2015 – our 8,000-day anniversary.
We drove to Teide on a warm autumn day, still driving The Beast, the 4×4 pickup truck we “inherited” from the previous owners of our house.
Parking at the base of Mount Teide, we hiked to Cañadas Blancas with its impressive rock formations.
The rocks, almost out of place in this landscape, are sharp, massive, and a striking yellowish color.
In the background, the majestic Mount Teide loomed.
We spent the hike reminiscing about our love, our relationship, and feeling immensely grateful for being in each other’s lives.
We reflected on that leap of faith we took when we met on November 27, 1993 – exactly 8,000 days ago.
As we made our way back, the sky darkened and, within seconds, we were caught in a torrential downpour.
It felt like a sign.
Walking in the rain is a recurring theme in our love story, each time presenting a choice: run for cover or embrace the moment.
We always choose to walk hand in hand, letting nature baptize our love.
Soaking wet, we returned to The Beast, our 20-year-old Ford pickup with nearly a million kilometers on it.
We undressed in the car, cranked up the heat, and drove home.
How did we celebrate our 8,000-day of love?
Well, I can’t quite remember… maybe Vered does.
One thing I do recall is the video message we sent to our daughter, studying in the USA at the time, sharing our love and this special day with her.
Celebrating our 8,000-day strong love in an unforgettable way.
