Transforming Fear into Purpose: A Response to the Paris Attack.
In this emotional, unplanned talk delivered during a PROfit Marketing training near Amsterdam in November 2015, I addressed the Paris terrorist attacks that had left many of our participants feeling scared, confused, and upset.
Although I initially continued the course without commenting on the tragic event, when I learned that some attendees were so disturbed by my silence that they considered leaving, I decided to speak from my heart.
The atmosphere before the speech was heavy with fear and a sense of helplessness.
Many had fallen into herd mentality, engaging in symbolic gestures like changing their Facebook profiles to the French flag, which I viewed as ultimately futile.
As I spoke, I urged the audience to shift from a place of fear and blame to one of action and empowerment.
I emphasized the importance of focusing on what we can control and being positive role models for others, even in dark times.
The transformation in the room was obvious – participants moved from feeling powerless to feeling inspired and capable of making a real difference.
By the end of my 9-minute “speech”, most participants left feeling relieved and motivated to take meaningful action in their lives.
This experience reinforced my belief in the importance of empowering others to fulfill their potential, as together we can create a better world, even in the face of tragedy.
