132 and Counting: Yoni’s Bold Goal and Our Ayurvedic Adventure.
In 2014, Yoni casually dropped a bombshell: he planned to live until 132.
Why? So he could say he’d spanned three centuries.
Naturally, I couldn’t let him steal the spotlight, so I jokingly set my own goal at a whopping 140.
After all, why not aim higher? We both figured that with the wonders of modern medicine and tech, these wild goals weren’t totally out of reach.
But hey, life has a funny way of throwing curveballs, so we weren’t holding our breath.
As they say, “Life is what happens when you’re busy making plans.”
But one thing we both agreed on—however long we were blessed to be on this planet, we wanted to be healthy—in body and mind.
That’s when our journey into the world of longevity began.
We became full-blown researchers, diving deep into every possible method, treatment, and practice that could help us stretch out our healthy years. If it promised a longer, stronger life, we were game.
One buzzword kept coming up: Panchakarma.
This Ayurvedic detox treatment promised a full-body reboot in just 28 days.
The catch? Carving out 28 days from our jam-packed schedules sounded impossible, and leaving Thom behind for a month? No way!
Plus, we’d heard that the traditional places in India had become tourist traps, losing their authentic touch in favor of quick-fix seekers.
Enter 2015, and our friend Michelle comes to the rescue.
She tipped us off about a place in Sri Lanka. Knowing Michelle’s high standards for authenticity, we were intrigued.
After some digging, we saw the photos and were sold—it looked like paradise.
So, with Thom off to study in the USA, we seized the opportunity and booked a 28-day retreat over Christmas and New Year’s.
Now, we thought we knew what we were getting into—cleansing, massages, maybe a bit of meditation—but nothing could have prepared us for the sheer bliss and tranquillity that awaited us.
For 28 days, five hours a day, we were pampered with herbal massages, detoxifying treatments, and more.
The whole resort ran like clockwork, yet barely a computer in sight!
Everything was handwritten, and the staff remembered every little detail about us—what treatments we needed, when to take our herbal remedies, and even our preferences. It was magical.
Of course, not everything was sunshine and rainbows.
Some of those Ayurvedic medicines? Let’s just say “disgusting” is an understatement!
But by the end of it, I felt reborn.
My energy skyrocketed, the pounds melted off without me even trying, my joint pains were history, and my skin and hair had a glow like never before.
And let’s not forget the setting—pure, natural beauty. Every morning we’d walk along the beach at sunrise, and let me tell you, there’s no better way to start your day.
They say that doing this treatment every few years can give you an extra seven years to your life, so we were all in!
We went back for another round in 2017, and here I am in 2024, eagerly counting down the days until our next visit this December.
I’m already dreaming of that rejuvenating magic all over again!
