2011 – Work Hard, Play Harder—Gran Canaria Style.

From Laptop Hustles to Pancake Flips.

After the roaring success of our 2010 Crocus Vakantie in Gran Canaria, we were itching for a return visit in 2011.
I booked the exact same house as before—a move that thrilled Thom.
She had fond memories of the endless antics she and her friend Alina had enjoyed there, and now she was eager to create new ones.

Thom was navigating a rough patch at her prestigious international school, and I thought bringing her new friend Zoe along might help strengthen their budding bond.
The promise of sunshine, freedom, and poolside shenanigans sounded like the perfect antidote.

So off we went, chasing the sun to Gran Canaria. This time, though, our little escape came with a plot twist.
While I envisioned lazy days away from work, Yoni had other plans—or rather, no plans to unplug.
Thanks to the explosive success of the Business Bootcamp and the rapid growth of Open Circles Academy, Yoni came fully equipped with his laptop and a mountain of tasks. He set up shop on our beautiful patio, turning it into a makeshift office.
His reasoning? “We’ve been here before; we already explored Gran Canaria last year.”

Sure, Yoni. Because one trip obviously covers every hidden gem on an entire island.

Meanwhile, Zoe and Thom dove headfirst into vacation mode.
They splashed, swam, and conquered every pool game imaginable.
Thom even discovered a new passion: pancake flipping.
Watching her twirl those pancakes through the air, you’d think she was auditioning for Gran Canaria’s Got Talent.

As for me, I embraced the quiet moments, catching up on my reading while keeping a side-eye on the pool, ensuring no pancake batter ended up in the water.

Evenings were when the magic really happened.
We managed to pry Yoni away from his computer long enough to enjoy dinners out.
And that’s when the serious, buttoned-up business mogul morphed into the life of the party.

He became a cactus impersonator (again—don’t ask), demonstrated how to get “drunk” on water, and built elaborate “skyscrapers” from bottles, salt shakers, and napkins right on the restaurant table.
His pièce de résistance? Biting my fingers. Yes, folks, his unique way of showing affection.

While this trip wasn’t about exploring Gran Canaria’s beauty, it became a different kind of adventure.
We uncovered the childlike joy in everyday moments—flipping pancakes, laughing at silly impersonations, and building towers out of restaurant props.

Sometimes, vacations aren’t about the places you see but the memories you create—and this one gave us plenty to laugh about for years to come.
