Saving 525 Kamlari Girls from Slavery.
On my 48th birthday, March 19, 2016, we launched a crowdfunding campaign that transformed the lives of hundreds of young girls trapped in slavery in Nepal.
These girls, known as Kamlari, are often sold into slavery at a tender age, some as young as six, by their families who struggle to survive on less than $2 a day.
Without education or hope, these girls faced a future of abuse and poverty – until, that is, we came together to rewrite their destinies.
Through the Save a Kamlari Girl campaign, powered by Open Circles Foundation, our non-profit organization, we aimed to not only free these girls but also offer them a path to a brighter future through education.
With the generous help of our community, and in partnership with the award-winning non-profit Room to Read, we envisioned a world where every child could unlock their full potential through education.
And together, we made that vision a reality.
Thanks to the generosity of 534 backers, we raised an incredible €131,249, freeing 525 girls from the grips of slavery and setting them on a path toward empowerment.
Each contribution wasn’t just a donation; it was an investment in breaking the cycle of poverty and abuse, creating ripples of change that will impact future generations.
For just €250, we could provide a year of secondary education to a girl who would otherwise be trapped in a life of hardship.
These girls, once powerless, are now equipped to build a future for themselves and their communities, thanks to the power of education.
The perks of the campaign were special too – not only did our backers get to change a life, but we also gave back in the form of tickets to our Enlightened Millionaire seminar, exclusive dinners, private training weekends, and even vision weeks in our dream home in Tenerife.
This was more than a fundraising effort – it was a community coming together to create profound, lasting impact.
Together, we achieved something truly extraordinary: we didn’t just free 525 girls; we gave them hope, opportunities, and the chance to dream.
This campaign proved the power of collective action and how education can be a catalyst for transformation.
We are deeply grateful for everyone who joined us on this journey.
Their generosity not only changed the lives of these Kamlari girls but also lit a beacon of hope for countless others.
We continue to believe in the power of education and the incredible change we can create together!
