Masks, Mayhem, and a Webinar Gone Wrong.
On Thursday, the 14th of January, 2016, we had quite an adventure.
We were in the basement studio of our friend Bas, who’s been our go-to video guy for years.
This was a big webinar we had planned and promoted for months.
When the time came, I was the presenter with three tech-savvy team members by my side.
But no matter what we did, we couldn’t get online.
We were all frustrated and stressed because hundreds of viewers were waiting.
After about 15 minutes of frenzy, we realized Plan A wasn’t working.
Bas had these awesome horror movie masks on his walls, and my team started putting them on and goofing around.
It was hilarious.
We jokingly blamed our technical issues on the gods of the internet and began to have fun with it.
I don’t even remember what the webinar was about, but it was part of a series for our advanced entrepreneurial students.
Even though we couldn’t contact the viewers live, we ended up recording the webinar while the team wore masks and cracked jokes.
First thing in the morning, we sent the recording to everyone.
Only after we finished recording the webimar, we discovered what actually happened…
We found out that YouTube servers were down during the exact time we tried to broadcast live!
That was our lightbulb moment: we decided to declare this day as the day we crashed YouTube.
The whole experience was a blast.
There was no need for me to motivate the team; everyone just relaxed and enjoyed the moment.
As for future webinars, we could only hope the “YouTube gods” would be on our side next time!
