Lockdown Birthday Bliss.
As 2019 wound down, I saw the big 6-0 on the horizon.
I wasn’t envisioning grand birthday bashes or over-the-top celebrations. All I really wanted was to have my family close.
I wasn’t dreading turning 60—in fact, I’ve always believed that, like a fine red wine, I get better with age.
Or as my mother used to joke, the best reason to marry a historian is because he’ll only get more interested in you as you grow older. Now, Yoni may not be a historian, but our relationship has definitely aged like one of those rare vintages—getting richer, stronger, and more intimate with time.
Then 2020 arrived, and with it, the world turned upside down. By March, everything was in lockdown, and the idea of having my family around for my July birthday felt like a distant dream.
So, I adjusted my expectations—no big celebrations, just Yoni and me.
But the Universe had other plans. In the midst of all the chaos, a tiny loophole opened up, allowing Thom to make a short visit to Tenerife between lockdowns.
That visit turned out to be the best birthday gift I could have ever imagined.
Hugging my amazing daughter on my 60th birthday was pure joy.
And as if that wasn’t enough, Thom and Yoni bonded over creating a reel of her dancing skills.
Sure, it was more for her career, but watching the finished video felt like another birthday gift.
I was bursting with pride as I watched this incredibly talented young woman and felt a deep sense of fulfillment, knowing I had been part of her journey.
