A Feast for All Senses: Our Food Forest Journey.
What began as a vision on barren, rocky terrain has blossomed SLOOOOOWLY into a vibrant food forest teeming with life!
Over the years, we’ve transformed this harsh Mediterranean plot into a lush, bountiful oasis, rich in colors, scents, and flavors.
With each season, our trees, raised beds, and balcony planters produce a tapestry of fruits and vegetables, from the sweetness of sun-ripened figs to the bright zest of lemons and the juicy allure of apricots and peaches.
Each harvest is a celebration.
Some years, the plum trees overflow, or the prickly pears overwhelmed us with their bright orange fruits.|
Other seasons bring a bounty of almonds or an abundance of honey.
Our kitchen becomes a workshop for preserving nature’s gifts – drying, jamming, soaking in honey or alcohol, juicing, and freezing, to savor each season long after it’s gone.
Our organic food forest, free from chemicals, pulses with biodiversity.
The air hums with bees drawn to our oranges, cherries, lemons, kiwis, and berry bushes, all mingling with native Mediterranean treasures like rosemary, olives, almonds, and grapevines.
It’s a symphony of life, where insects dance, butterflies flit, and the songs of birds fill the air.
While water scarcity remains our biggest challenge – especially as I’m writing this (November 2024) in this ongoing two-year drought – we’re determined.
The sun graces us generously, and the soil, now amended with organic matter, nurtures new seedlings each year.
Our goal remains ambitious: to one day grow 80% of our vegetables, fruits, nuts, honey, and eggs year-round.
So here we are, planting again, nourishing our little paradise with love and patience, knowing that every single sprig of parsley, every bursting tomato, and every drop of honey is not just food but a story of resilience, connection, and abundance.
And we’re not giving up anytime soon.
