2025 – Spring in Casa Alegria

Spring Awakening: A Blooming Comeback After the Drought.

It’s spring 2025, and after three bone-dry, heart-wrenching years, we’ve finally had a few good rains—and oh, what a difference a little water makes!

The soil is breathing, the trees are stretching, the flowers are dancing, and honestly, so are we.

The Struggle Was Real

The past few years were tough on the land—and on us.

We lost almost half of our fruit trees—some dried up in the relentless sun, while others were victims of the Great Rabbit Invasion.

It was as if every rabbit on Tenerife had gotten the same memo:

“Food forest at Casa Alegria. Open buffet. Come hungry.”

They gnawed the bark off our young trees like it was gourmet cuisine.

At first, I let it go—naively hoping it was just a bad season.

By the second year, I was devastated.
Watching those baby trees die was like losing old friends I hadn’t even had the chance to get to know.

But by the third year?
We got smart.
Or at least reactively proactive.

We wrapped and protected the trunks of every surviving tree.

We built frames and mesh cages around the most vulnerable raised beds—turning parts of the veggie garden into mini-forts that even the craftiest rabbit or partridge would think twice about breaching.

And Then… the Rains Came

Finally.

In just six weeks, the land woke up again.

And wow—what a sight.

Everywhere you look: fruit trees blossoming, flowers blooming, veggies thriving, bees buzzing, birds singing, and green, glorious green bursting from every corner of the property.

It’s a full-blown botanical comeback tour—and we’re here for every moment.

So here they are:

The photos and video to remember this sweet, sweet return to life.

After years of holding our breath, we’re exhaling into spring.
