Chasing Magic: Our 25th Anniversary Adventure in Norway.
Celebrating our Silver Anniversary in Norway was a beautiful blend of adventure, romance, and reflection.
Vered managed to find the perfect cabin, nestled on a serene lake, surrounded by snowy forests and under the swirling skies – just in time to match our two special dates: November 27, when I first told her that I felt we had something special at the end of the CFA workshop, and December 3, when we shared our very first “date” (actually a working weekend for her…)
From the moment we stepped into that cozy cabin, it felt like we were living in a Christmas postcard!
The days were short, with the sun only blessing us for a few hours each day, casting an ethereal light over a world of whites, blacks, and silvery grays.
Every drive felt like a journey through a monochrome wonderland, interrupted only by the sudden splash of color from the traditional yellow and red cabins dotting the landscape.
We rarely saw other travelers, but every now and then, we’d catch a glimpse of a reindeer trotting gracefully through the snow or a moose majestically striding alongside our car, making those quiet hours feel like a winter safari.
Each evening, we chased the elusive northern lights, braving the icy cold for a chance to witness nature’s most stunning show.
Despite our efforts, they only appeared as a faint, ghostly glow in the distance.
One particularly memorable night, our rented car got firmly lodged in the snow, leaving us stranded until a tow truck finally pulled us free.
It was one of those “crisis-turned-comedy” moments we’ll laugh about forever.
Afternoons were spent inside the warmth of the cabin, where I began a new writing project – my trilogy about my life as an entrepreneur.
It was a venture which started in the Norwegian winter’s tranquility, and it died out weeks later.
But the time spent crafting words, with snow gently falling outside, added some action to our getaway.
One frosty morning, we took a husky sled ride through the snowy wilderness.
We glided through the still, icy silence, as the sun rose pink and golden over the snow-capped horizon.
Though I was skeptical about how much the dogs actually enjoyed their work, I now know they were as thrilled to run as we were to ride, their joy unmistakable in each enthusiastic bound.
On our final day, we braved the frigid Norwegian waters in a small boat to meet the orcas.
I was captivated by the sight of those sleek, powerful creatures cutting through the icy waves, and somehow, I didn’t snap a single photo.
Maybe I was too entranced by their beauty – or maybe it was just too cold to remove my gloves!
Either way, seeing the orcas up close became the unforgettable highlight of our trip.
Our anniversary in Norway may not have been the perfect celebration, but it was perfectly us.
We deepened our bond, laughed through the challenges, made new memories, and – somehow – fell a little more in love.
Plus, I started a small but meaningful new habit: making our bed each morning, a simple gesture of care that has stuck ever since.
For better or worse, our 25th anniversary was an adventure we’ll never forget.
