Mongol Rally Craziness: Turkey Edition.
Buckle up, because Turkey took us on a wild ride!
First up: ice cream madness!
An ice cream seller playing endless tricks on me while my delicious treat danced in the air.
I finally got my hands on it (and trust me, it was worth the wait), but not before being thoroughly entertained by this guy’s ninja-level ice cream acrobatics for 5 whole minutes.
After that sugar rush, it’s time to hit the streets of Istanbul.
Photos galore as we wander through vibrant plazas, attractions, and bustling markets.
The food stalls alone could make you drool – sweets, meats, pastries, and spices – flavors everywhere.
And what better way to end our day than at a luxury hotel? It was the last time we’d enjoy any real comfort!
That night, we strolled through Istanbul’s glowing streets, crossing the famous bridge, feeling the city buzz under the evening lights, and ducking into a local joint for some absolutely epic shawarma (locals only, no tourist traps here!).
Fast forward to the next day – Diana’s now a star, getting care from Alex and grabbing attention from everyone we pass.
But with 50-degree heat and zero A/C in our beloved metal box on wheels, Alex and I were basically slow-cooking.
Improvised toy fans were our only saviors as we crawled toward Cappadocia.
Finally, at sunset, we roll into this magical land of fairy chimneys and alien landscapes.
Day three?
Exhaustion hits us like a ton of bricks, so no dawn balloon ride, but I do some solo exploring instead.
Underground city and nature reserve – it’s like stepping into another world.
That night, we feast on a clay pot dinner, served with flair as the pot is smashed open right at the table!
Oh, and Alex continues his mission to get me into beer… I still can’t see the appeal.
The next morning, we’re up early (finally!) to catch the hot air balloons.
Hundreds of them float up in the sunrise over Cappadocia’s surreal landscape – thousands of tourists just floating among those iconic rock formations.
It’s pure magic.
Then comes one of the most special moments of the trip.
We stop for a casual shawarma in some random town, only to discover the lone diner is none other than Turkey’s top boxer, an Olympian!
Shawarma lessons and boxing stories later, we’re back on the road, minds blown.
And now for the ultimate test: the infamous D915 – “The Death Road.”
Oh yeah, we debated if we were crazy enough to take it. And spoiler: we were.
Picture endless hairpin twists, sheer cliffs, zero guardrails, and me hanging halfway out of the window as Alex steered Diana like a pro.
It’s ranked as one of the most dangerous roads in the world, and we tackled it like maniacs.
The video doesn’t capture any of the adrenaline rush, but trust me, it’s burned into my memory!
The clip wraps with a simple, home-cooked lunch and one last gorgeous sunset on the coast.
Tomorrow, we leave Turkey and dive headfirst into the wild unknown of the less “civilized” and more dangerous parts of the rally.
What’s next? Stay tuned… things are about to get even crazier!
