Discovering Beauty In The Ordinary.
On January 15, 2021, our family at Casa Alegria grew in the most magical way when Kesem, a spirited and utterly lovable German Shepherd, trotted into our lives and declared, “This is it! You’re my forever home, and you, lady, are my new mum!” Just like that, my routine took a playful, furry detour.
Gone were the days of starting peacefully with meditation. Nope, Kesem had other plans.
Every morning, before the world was fully awake and long before I was ready, Kesem and I would set off on his daily adventure walk.
If I didn’t get him moving early, his favorite activities consisted of soaking up the sunshine or turning our garden into a dig site that would make archaeologists jealous.
At first, I’ll admit, I grumbled about this new responsibility. Trading in my calm morning rituals for brisk walks felt like a serious sacrifice.
But then, a little lightbulb went off in my mind, inspired by one of the principles in our book Living By Design: “Capturing Beauty.”
Why spend my mornings resenting the early rise when I could instead soak in the beauty that surrounded me?
So, with Kesem as my cheerful companion, I made a decision: I’d start looking for wonder and magic during our walks.
And wow, did Casa Alegria deliver!
Every sunrise became a masterpiece—whether the sky was ablaze with sunshine, cloaked in clouds, or swirling with the wind.
I noticed how the seasons whispered through the landscape, transforming the same view into something uniquely breathtaking each day.
Even the tiniest details revealed marvels: a delicate fly resting inside a flower, a spiderweb glittering like a necklace of diamonds after the morning dew.
Before long, I wasn’t just taking Kesem for a walk; I was setting out on a daily treasure hunt.
Capturing snapshots of this beauty lifted my spirits, filled me with a sense of awe, and deepened my trust in the magic of life.
My heart felt lighter, my mind more inspired, and soon, I was hooked.
I had become joyfully addicted to discovering and capturing the wonders all around Casa Alegria.
