Teide in the Snow, and Missing Thom.
Pandemic Year Two… January 2021…
This week, heavy snow fell on Teide, Tenerife’s iconic volcano, drawing hordes of people eager to witness the rare sight and play in the snow.
The rush was so intense that police had to cap the number of cars, and traffic jams were stretching for many kilometers.
Determined to beat the crowds and the roadblocks, we (Vered, myself, and Gerdy) set out long before dawn for a sunrise adventure.
A 45-minute drive in the dark brought us to the volcano’s edge, just in time for a spectacular sunrise.
As the first light hit, the mountain turned a breathtaking shade of pink, captured perfectly in this photo.
The day was bittersweet.
After enjoying the serene morning, we headed to the airport.
Gerdy had a flight home, and we were excited to reunite with Thom, flying in from London.
But as we neared the airport, a tearful call from Thom shattered our anticipation.
She was missing a critical COVID document and couldn’t board her flight.
Our hearts ached with the disappointment of not seeing Thom after six long months.
But that’s life – full of unexpected twists.
At least we have the memory of that stunning sunrise on a pink, snowy Teide to hold onto.
