New Year’s Video – A New Tradition is Born.
For a few magical years, we made it a tradition to escape to the sunny paradise of Bonaire during Christmas and New Year’s.
Picture it: endless days of scuba diving in crystal-clear waters, immersing ourselves in nature, indulging in fantastic food, and soaking up the sunshine.
It was the perfect way to recharge and reflect on the year gone by, while also setting the stage for the new one.
But it wasn’t all just relaxing on the beach.
In December 2011, we decided to add a new twist to our yearly tradition – a fun, creative twist.
That’s when we started making these quirky, heartwarming videos to wish our community a Happy New Year.
The mastermind behind the camera?
None other than Thom, who was just 14 at the time.
She directed, filmed, and edited the entire video on her laptop, right in our cozy apartment in Bonaire.
That year’s video focused on my New Year’s resolutions, and we even invited our students to share theirs too.
It became this delightful little project that brought so much joy, not just to us, but to everyone who watched.
We loved it so much that we made it an annual thing!
Fast forward to December 2013, and there we were, still at it, creating another fun video.
Our last one was in 2016 sending blessings to everyone from our home in Tenerife.
Each year, it got a little more creative and a lot more special.
Looking back, these videos captured more than just resolutions – they captured memories, laughter, and a slice of the island life we cherished so much.
