2006 – Island Paradise – A Family Vacation in Curaçao.

Training, Fun, and Island Life.

In May 2006, Yoni headed off to Curacao for an unforgettable training course with Roy Martina.
He instantly fell in love with the island life—especially the amazing diving, a shared passion of ours!
But at the time, Curacao seemed too far away for just a vacation. Little did we know, the Universe had other plans for us.

By December, we were offered the chance to train a group of mentors for Curacao’s teachers, who were undergoing a massive educational system overhaul.
The timing was perfect—what better way to spend Christmas than escaping the cold, grey skies of Amsterdam for some island sunshine?

We packed our bags, scooped up Thom, and off we went to Curacao!

The first week wasn’t without its challenges. Cultural differences made the training trickier than expected, but by the end, we nailed it.
Meanwhile, Thom was off on her own adventure—making friends all over the resort, despite the language barriers, and entertaining herself like a pro.
She became a little island explorer while we worked!

The second week was pure bliss.
We took scooter rides, swam with dolphins, went diving, and spent tons of time just being goofy together, dancing, and soaking up the fun.
The sun was shining, the weather was perfect, and it felt like a dream.
We completely forgot it was December—only a surprise visit from the island’s Santa Claus reminded us that Christmas was just around the corner!

That magical trip set the tone for our future year-end getaways.
For the next few years, we found ourselves celebrating on Bonaire, the neighboring island, and it solidified one thing for us: once Thom graduated, island life would be our ultimate dream.
